₹2 Lakh for Vietnam? Here's Why I'd Still Go

Vietnam is often talked about as an affordable destination.

And yes, Vietnam can be affordable.

But that's not the only way to look at it.

A proper Vietnam trip can cost significantly more once you include international flights, good accommodation, food, local transport, activities and enough time to actually experience the country.

So here's a question worth asking:

If a Vietnam trip costs around ₹2 lakh, would I still go?

For me, yes.

Vietnam Isn't Just a Cheap Holiday

Flights from India can be a significant part of the trip.

Then come hotels, food, transport and experiences.

And if you want comfortable accommodation and enough time to explore different parts of Vietnam, the total can add up quickly.

But that doesn't automatically make the trip poor value.

The better question is:

What are you getting for your money?

Ha Long Bay

Ha Long Bay is one of those places I'd want to experience at least once.

The limestone islands, water and the experience of being out on the bay make it very different from an ordinary city break.

For me, this isn't something I'd want to simply see in a photograph.

I'd want to be there.

Ninh Binh

Then there is Ninh Binh.

The limestone mountains, rivers and surrounding landscapes create an experience that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.

It's one of the places I'd find hard to leave out of a Vietnam itinerary.

Hoi An

Hoi An is another part of the experience.

For me, skipping Hoi An would be a little like going to Varanasi and saying:

“I'll skip the Ganga Aarti.”

It's part of what makes the journey feel complete.

The historic streets, evening atmosphere and slower pace give you something very different from the larger Vietnamese cities.

Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge

Then you have Ba Na Hills.

The cable cars.

The mountains.

The Golden Bridge.

The French Village.

It's another side of Vietnam that feels completely different from simply visiting a city.

And for an Indian traveller, some of these experiences can feel genuinely unusual.

Da Nang

Da Nang gives you another combination altogether.

Beach.

City.

Mountains.

And, of course, the Dragon Bridge coming alive at night.

It's a destination where you can combine relaxation with a very active city experience.

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

Then there are Vietnam's two major urban experiences.

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City feel very different.

Hanoi gives you its own rhythm, history, streets and everyday atmosphere.

Ho Chi Minh City is faster, bigger and has a very different energy.

Seeing both gives you a much broader understanding of Vietnam.

Why I Would Consider 15 Days

If you're already spending significant money to fly all the way to Vietnam, I wouldn't automatically limit the trip to seven days.

If you have the time and budget, I'd consider around 15 days.

Yes, 15 days costs more.

You'll spend more on:

  • Hotels

  • Food

  • Local transport

  • Attractions

  • Experiences

But you're also getting much more time in the country.

You don't have to rush from one destination to another.

You can stay longer in places you enjoy.

You can experience different regions.

And you can leave some room for the unexpected.

What If ₹2 Lakh Isn't Possible Right Now?

That's completely fine.

The point isn't that everyone needs to spend ₹2 lakh on Vietnam.

Travel budgets are personal.

The point is that if Vietnam is somewhere you've wanted to visit, you don't have to think of it only as a cheap holiday that you should squeeze into the smallest possible budget.

You can plan for it.

Save for it.

And go when the timing works for you.

Vietnam Deserves a Place on the List

For me, Vietnam deserves to sit alongside the destinations people deliberately save for and say:

“One day, I'm going there.”

Not simply because it is affordable.

But because there is enough here to make the journey worthwhile.

Ha Long Bay.

Ninh Binh.

Hoi An.

Ba Na Hills.

Da Nang.

Hanoi.

Ho Chi Minh City.

And everything you experience between those places.

₹2 lakh for Vietnam?

For me, yes.

I'd still go.
